The Nine Suns are Grand Empyreans (Grand Empyrean being the equivalent of the Paragon stage) and comprised of some of the most powerful cultivators of the Immortal God Continent.
Each of the Nine Suns are identified with the presence of a sun behind them that is described as being able to rip apart the black of night. They have been mentioned various times throughout the running of I Shall Seal the Heavens as the ones pulling the landmass of the Immortal God Continent on its way to destroy the Mountain and Sea Realm. It is later revealed that none of the Nine Suns are actually alive and that like the rest of the Immortal God Continent, they are merely reanimated corpses with memories implanted into them from the stream of time by Allheaven.

They have had brief cameos throughout the novel as pulling an enormous landmass towards the Mountain and Seas Realm. It isn't until the midst of the war with the 33 Heavens that they finally arrive with their entire army and demand the surrender of the Mountain and Seas, as well as the relinquishing of the Copper Mirror, which they were going to use to bring back their Transcendent Cultivator, The God.

They attempted to resist Meng Hao when he brought the army of the Vast Expanse School to destroy the Immortal God Continent. Together, the Nine Suns emanated a power that even caused Meng Hao to feel slight danger despite his Transcendent cultivation. They were capable of utilizing a powerful light-based spell created by their Transcendent cultivator (Assumed to be Sundered Night), as well as set a deadly spell formation capable of completely obliterating a peak 9-essence cultivator or seriously injure a cultivator half a step into Transcendence. However, due to Meng Hao's complete transcendent cultivation base he easily survived and obliterated eight of them, leaving the last one alive to be soul-searched.[10]
Trivia[]
- The Nine Suns were originally introduced in Er Gen's first novel, Renegade Immortal, they are Grand Empyreans, equal to Paragons. While it is clear this is the same organisation, it is not known whether these are the same individuals.
- The Nine Suns share similarities with both the Mountain and Sea Realm's Echelon and the Vast Expanse School's Five Potentates. The Nine Suns and the Echelon are assemblies of powerful individuals — an "organization but not an organization" — but while the former consists of Paragons, the latter is not. On the other hand, the Five Potentates have cultivation bases that have reached Borderline Transcendence. They, like the Nine Suns, are considered to be their continent's most powerful. Incidentally, Meng Hao was part of both the Potentate and the Echelon.
